Fabio Conforto

(Trieste 1909-Roma 1954)


He studied in Vienna , Trieste , Milano and finally at the University of Roma , where he graduated in 1931, studying with G. Castelnuovo, F. Enriques, F. Severi and E. Bompiani. He studied also in Göttingen, where he got in touch with Siegel. After his return to Roma he worked in the "Istituto Nazionale per le Applicazioni del Calcolo" whose director was then M. Picone . He taught in Roma since 1939, until his untimely death (aged 46) in 1954.

Besides of being one of he most original Italian algebraic geometer of his generation (among the few ones to follow the developments due to German school), he was also interested in analysis and applied mathematics. He contributed with many articles to the Enciclopedia Italiana . Two ot his books were published after his death by Gröbner and Benedicty. He was also actively involved in educational issues.

Among his students we may cite G. Panella, M. Scafati, M. Benedicty, M. Rosati.
